SK Gaming finished day 1 the happiest as they picked up the first place in the IEM5 World Championship semi finals.
Going into the last round, none of the top four placed teams in Group B were saved as all of them could still walk out empty-handed. SK Gaming and Lions had an advantage, in theory, as they were to battle Evil Geniuses and redCode, respectively, two teams who had nothing to play for but pride.
In a rather surprising move, Lions did not vote de_inferno out, and that moved certainly cost them as they were downed 16-8 by a stubborn Korean side, a result which denied them access to the playoffs.
Elsewhere, SK Gaming were made to work hard to move past Evil Geniuses, beating the American team 16-11 after being down 9-6 at the break.
In the final group match, Na´Vi played their last card and it worked out for them as they defeated fnatic 16-9, with the scoreboard showing 12-3 in their favour when the teams switched sides.
This means that SK Gaming finished at the top of the group, while Na´Vi placed second and fnatic third. These last two teams will now meet the third and second-placed sides from Group A, respectively.
